LADIES AGM

King James VI Ladies held their Annual General meeting on 31st October 2014 ... appropriate!  Lady Captain Moira Lumby welcomed the 17 ladies who attended with a glass of sparkling wine obviously hoping to put everyone into a mellow frame of mind.  We were especially pleased to welcome Donna our new member to her first AGM.

Moira chaired the meeting very efficiently and agreement was reached on the main points fairly painlessly. This may have been due to Moira threatening anyone who talked too much with having to wear her Witches Hat!

We were all delighted to endorse the election of our new Vice Captain, Alison Knight, who will make an excellent Lady Captain in due course.  Moira then  moved on to the presentation of prizes.  The vote of thanks was given by Fiona Farquharson the Club Champion.

Formalities over, we were able to enjoy a superb meal produced by Paul hotfoot from Amsterdam and ably assisted by Mike. Thank you Gentlemen we really enjoyed the evening.

Ladies Handicap League AGM

The AGM of the Ladies handicap League was held at King James VI GC this afternoon. The winners Dunkeld & Birnam were presented with the Loch Leven’s Larder Handicap League Trophy for the second year running. The trophy was presented by Moira Lumby co coordinator of the Handicap League. It was a very close thing with Murrayshall tying in matches but losing out in the individual games count for the second year running. King James VI Ladies came third, despite struggling with team injuries though out the year. Thanks you to Paul for providing yummy cakes and tea.

LADIES FINAL FLING

The Ladies held their Final Fling on Saturday. The format was a Texas Scramble which is always good fun. We were delighted to welcome some of the ladies who have been taking part in the coaching sessions during the Summer. Pam, Pat and Donna joined in the Texas Scramble and the newer golfers joined us for Cream Teas after their Coaching Session.

The weather was really kind to us and the course was looking at its best with the Autumn colours in their full glory.  The scores were really impressive. Even the Consolation Prize went to a team with a score below par. Well done Ladies - a good omen for next year?

Winners were Moira Lumby, Dot Whytock and Alison Knight with an impressive 63. Fiona Farquharson, Margaret Watson and Pat Hebner were runners up with 65.5.

It was really heartening to see so many ladies joining in the fun. We hope the newbees will see that we are a friendly bunch and that there is no need to feel nervous about playing with us. Playing on the Winter Course is a great way of keeping your game going over the Winter and it is fun to play - the greenkeeper shortens the holes and changes the layout.

Come and join us then maybe next year we can afford more enticing prizes.

Dot, Moira and Alison with their glittering 1st prizes.

Ladies and welcome guests enjoying apres golf!
Has Donna got one foot on her lucky tee?

GREENFINGERS

Congratulations to Moira Chapman who has won a Community Award for her lovely front garden as part of Perth in Bloom. Her back garden is even more impressive!

Aren't we lucky to have an expert overseeing the Ladies' efforts at King Jimmy.

Thanks to the little gnome(s)who have been beavering away in the clubhouse borders. Ladies both them and the baskets are blooming - they are so colourful. A bit like our Ladies section really!

Outing to Pitlochry Theatre

A small group from the Ladies section went on, what has become an annual outing, to Pitlochry Festival Theatre. The play was The Admiral Crighton by J M Barrie
before the show we enjoyed a pre-theatre meal and chat at the Port Na Criag Inn.

SLGA MEDALIST AT FORRES

Moira Lumby and Iris Robertson represented King James at Forres this week. They won their place by being the players (Silver and Bronze) with the best aggregate score over 4 medals last year.

Both ladies played very well over a strange course. Moira was runner up in the Silver division and has qualified for SLGA finals to be played at the Island in September. Iris was delighted to have a score in the 70s.

Well done girls - a credit to the Island.

Hope your behaviour on your shopping jolly was equally creditable !!!!

SLGA FOURSOMES

Congratulations to Muriel and Fiona who won their match at Pitlochry to gain a place in the Semi-Finals to be played at Auchterarder on Saturday 30th August.

They will play the Semi Final match in the morning and then will either go through to the Final in the afternoon or they will play for 3rd or 4th place.

If you are free on Saturday why not go along to show your support.

LADIES HANDICAP LEAGUE

The result was 3 – 2 in favour of King James VI. The Dunkeld and Birnam Ladies were very complimentary about how they had enjoyed our course and also of Paul’s catering in the clubhouse.

ISLAND MIXED GREENSOMES

Members from all sections were represented on Friday evening when we played the Island Mixed Greensomes (revamped Mr & Mrs).  We were delighted especially to see Ben Anderson and Mikey Lumby represent the youngsters we hope to see for many years to come on the Island.

Everyone enjoyed the evening although it was disappointing not to see a few more joining in the fun. Maybe next year!!  Ben has promised to bring his pals next time. He really had a ball and played so well.

The winners were Liz and David Angus with a magnificent 64 although they had an unfair advantage having just returned from holiday in Portugal.  We know what to do next year if we want to win.  Liz and David also earned the prestigious trophies awarded to the best Mr & Mrs combination.  Close runners up were Mother & Son, Agnes and Stuart Manattini with 64.8

Well done everyone who helped maked this a most enjoyable evening.

BRAEHEAD OUTING

King Jimmy Ladies took a trip on 9th July to play Braehead Golf Course near Alloa. We had a beautiful day for the outing and were delighted to see a weel kent face when we met the Braehead Pro, our own Brian Leishman.

We were looked after very well by Braehead members and staff. The views were spectacular, the course was immaculate but very, very difficult.  The Island Ladies are not used to sloping lies. Not to mention hills, or undulating fairways, as Helen described them before we left. Dot had great fun with the buggy and managed to hold up the course on one very memorable hole while we tried to navigate our way to the next green!

Since we have promised to be discreet on this blog and never to publish embarassing information the scores will not be revealed Emoji !!   Congratulations to Liz Angus who, although still not fully fit, managed to show us all the way and had the best stableford points score. The winning team was Moira Lumby, Michelle McKay and Muriel McPherson.

We all had a very enjoyable day - so much so that the newly elected Social Convenor, Iris, is planning a weekend away next year! Watch this space!!!EmojiEmoji
